In hospital getting sewn back together. Also looks like I have a broken finger. Is it really necessary to have 3 races in one bunch!?

Entries for tenth MTB Challenge close on Friday

(Cape Town, 16 February 2011) Entries for the 2011 Cape Argus Pick n Pay MTB Challenge close on Friday 18 February and this deadline will not be extended.

“It’s the tenth anniversary of the MTB Challenge. It’s grown from 164 participants to a two-day event which attracts about 4,000 entrants across the four different routes. The MTB Challenge has become a major event in its own right, and the speed at which people have entered for this year’s event reflects that,” commented David Bellairs, CEO of the Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust.

As in 2010, the MTB Challenge will again be split over two days, on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 March 2011, taking place on the weekend preceding the Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour.

The shorter routes have been scheduled for Saturday, 5 March. According to Bellairs “the 13km and 25km is perfect for novice and intermediate riders, and is geared towards parents who’d like to go off-road with their children.”

The longer routes will take place on Sunday 6 March. “The 32km and 52km are tough rides geared at experienced mountain bikers who enjoy a technical challenge.”

Enter the MTB Challenge online by visiting www.mtbchallenge.co.za no later than Friday 18 February.

Other facilities on offer

“My advice to riders and spectators attending the MTB Challenge is to order a legendary French-style picnic from Boschendal’s Le Pique Nique. It is simply the best way to relax after a strenuous ride,” said Bellairs.

A special area will be demarcated close to the finish line for these bookings. Picnics cost R150 and include baguettes, a selection of meats, chicken, salads and more. For additional information and bookings, please contact Boschendal on 021 870 4200.

“For those wishing to make a real weekend of the MTB Challenge, camping will also be on offer at the Boschendal Wine Estate,” Bellairs explained. Full ablution facilities (including hot water) will be available, but no power will be provided. The cost is R80 per person per night. Kids under the age of 15 camp for free. Numbers are limited, so be sure to book you camp site soonest. For more info please contact Dirtopia at  021 8844752.
