The event takes place on Sunday 5 December, and will start and finish at the Stellenbosch High School in Jannasch Street (off Merriman Street).
“Since our inaugural event in 2007, Die Burger Cycle Tour has become the second biggest cycling event in the Western Cape – that’s an achievement to be proud of,” says editorBun Booyens. “This year we’ve introduced a new 15km road distance, and I hope many parents and youngsters will tackle this enjoyable route together.”
The 15km fun ride is perfect for families with young children (there is no age restriction). Die Burger Cycle Tour also features the longer 44km and 98km routes for more experienced cyclists.

The scenic 44km route:
- Cyclists will follow the 98km route, over the Old Helshoogte Pass and through Pniel.
- Just after the railway line at Boschendal, cyclists will take a left onto the R45 in the direction of Klapmuts.
- The two routes join up again on the R44, about 15km before the finish in Stellenbosch.
The 15km family-friendly route:
- Starting at Stellenbosh High School, cyclists will ride along the scenic Jonkershoek Road for 8km before turning around at the entrance to the Jonkershoek Nature Reserve.
- Cyclists will make their way back to the finish, just around the corner from the High School.
- Although there is a bit of a climb towards Jonkershoek, this is an easy and non-technical route, aimed at parents who wish to do a fun ride with their children.
