South African Pro Cycling

The battle for supremacy on tar intensified over the past weekend (14-15 August 2010) when the riders of MTN-Energade and Medscheme took their ‘battle’ to the roads of the West Rand during the EPR Cycle Challenge, which finished on the Tarlton International Raceway.

(Cape Town, 17 August 2010) Following their sponsorship of a prize category at the 2009 Coronation Double Century, Fundamental Software has come on board as the presenting sponsor of the 2010 race. 

Team bizhub’s Ischen Stopforth showed that she was back to her best after guiding team-mate Lise Olivier to an impressive victory in the women’s section of the Trans Baviaans mountain bike marathon that was contested over 230 kilometres between Willowmore and Jeffreys Bay in the Eastern Cape on Saturday.

Lizanne Naude proved the rider to beat when she took 1^st place in the prologue over 8km in 00:11:03. She was followed by Ronel van Straaten in 00:11:25 with Anriette Schoeman in the 3^rd place in 00:11:27.

Bradley Potgieter (Team MTN) takes the win ahead of Hanco Kachelhoffer (Team Medscheme) and Pieter Seyffert (DCM), after the three broke away in the final 10km's of the 150km elite/u23 race

Johannesburg, 3^rd August 2010 – Cycling South Africa today revealed its new strategic plan for the next few years, as well as news of anticipated and exciting events including the Tour of South Africa. The strategy, “2020 Vision”, will cater for both the ‘elite’ cyclist as well as the everyday two-wheel lover. 

Ben-Melt Swanepoel (Specialized/Mr Price) and Yolandi du Toit (Bizhub) turned the Nissan Diamond Rush Race over 70km in Cullinan, on Saturday, 24 July, into a true ‘love match on mountain bikes’ by respectively winning the pro-elite races for men and women.

Burry Stander (Specialized/Mr Price) showed again that he is in a class of his own when he made riding away from his rivals look ‘oh so easy’ during the MTN South African Cross-country championship at the Fountains in Pretoria on Saturday, 17 July.

There is a new South African cycling star on the rise. Ashleigh Moolman Pasio, a professional racer for the Biogen Toyota women’s road cycling team, overcame more than just a formidable international field to claim an historic top-20 place at the Giro d’Italia Internazionale Femminile, which finished at the weekend.
